Synopsis
This is indeed only one story of many refugee rescue missions told by Clemens Nagel. A few lives of many whom he accompanied on the rescue boat Iuventa off the Libyan coast. Stunned and intently trying not to focus on the shocking news that around him people are dying he speaks about life and what takes place inside these people, what happens inside himself and what we might be beginning to forget in this world.
We interviewed Clemens after he returned home from a sea rescue mission on the Mediterranean. We animated his experiences and the struggle he had turning back to everyday life.
Technique
The animations are made by using hand drawn ink illustrations and filmed ink gradients.
